i apologise for my knee jerk reaction to your first comment. i think the question should be why wouldn't he sing an orange song? the simple answer to your question is he's singing it for the crack. he also sang "the old orange flute" for the same reason. ronnie had no problem singing "the old orange flute" because he wasn't a bigot and it's a good song. as can be heard from the recording of "the sash", the patrons of mcnamara's pub were not bigots either as they sang along with gusto.
