GROWING RURAL: Our Youth, Cultivating Compassion

The Center for Rural Outreach and Public Services, Inc. (CROPS) is a grassroots, community based organization whose mission is "to empower intergenerational individuals and organizations in rural communities to work together to solve rural problems." Since 2005 CROPS has been working to create a model program, called Growing Rural, to revitalize Rural America. In this program CROPS is using the platform of "small town revitalization" for youth development, empowerment, and character education through service learning projects. CROPS' main objective is to encourage at-risk youth to find positive ways to contribute their unique resourcefulness and creativity to help revitalize rural towns.
