When I switched to vegetarian diet, I instantly saved 1/3 because I realized that the meat dishes were costly.
But going to a restaurant already knowing exactly what you will order is an excellent tip. I particularly like the tip on boxing up 1/2 the meal ahead of time.
That's great advice. My wife and I started splitting meals and switching to water instead of soft drinks (unless we decided to have some beers of course). On a typical meal - say Chipotle - we would go from about $16 to $6. Thats a decent savings when you add it up a few times a week. Plus, it still fills us up and we stopped gaining weight from overeating.
