Derek and the Dominos - Layla

There are *dozens* of versions of this song. This particular one is from the "Complete Clapton" anthology.

  • @Tacobender79 this is the version from the original Derek and the Dominoes album, there may be many versions around but this is original and that best.

  • @torquemadagb I encoded this song from my original CD, I think I know what I'm talking about :) The version on the Dominos album (which I also have) is slightly different. :)

  • I noticed you asked which version of Layla is this, so I added some info in the description. It's true: there are *dozens* of different versions of this song! This one is taken from the "Complete Clapton" anthology, and is the one that I prefer :) I don't know if it's featured in other CDs or anthologies, but it's surely different from the ones on the Derek And The Dominos album issues (original or remastered). Needless to say, the original CD sounds a lot better than this Youtube encoding. ;-)

  • GOODFELLAS.

  • @emmers57 Cool thats my favourite part of this song

  • @METALTRON89 he also wrote the rather evocative piano break.

  • My all-time favorite song ever.

What'll you do when you get lonely And nobody's waiting by your side? You've been running and hiding much too long. You know it's just your foolish pride.

Layla, you've got me on my knees.

    Layla, I'm begging, darling please.

Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

I tried to give you consolation When your old man had let you down. Like a fool, I fell in love with you, Turned my whole world upside down

  • @nojsc Well all i know is that he was insane he needed help horrible that someone had to die for that to happen hopefully he got the help he needed in jail

  • @METALTRON89 Wiki: Gordon developed schizophrenia and began to hear voices, including those of his mother, which forced him to starve himself and prevented him from sleeping, relaxing or playing drums. In 1983 he attacked his mother with a hammer before fatally stabbing her. Though at trial the court accepted that Gordon had acute schizophrenia he was not allowed to use an insanity defense because of changes to California law. On July 10, 1984 Gordon was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison.

  • One of Rock's eternal classics. Play on....

  • This song is a remarkable piece of music and it's sad that everyone tends to think of this as *just* Eric Clapton when this really was a team effort by D&TD. Then again it's really the story attached to it that gets people; the most famous love triangle in rock and roll history. Of course, Pattie left George for Eric; they had grown apart and as someone else said, Eric sort of picked Pattie up. George never held it against them.
