I thought the percentage of men who are gay was 4% while only 95% are straight; still this would mean that 17.1% of men are straight and effeminate, more than 4 times the total gay population. I wish there were better statistics on all of this though.

@jelewis2 Studies have variously shown that 2% of men are gay, that 4% are gay, that 10% are gay. The problem is that when answering anonymous questionnaires men tend to not be completely honest. Data selected from various sources suggests that close to 50% of males are bisexuals. For example, studies have shown that over 70% imprisoned men will have sex with other males. Keep in mind that close to

2% of the male population is asexual-- ie not attracted to males or females sexually.

I hope you don't intend to say that Gilgamesh was Gay. First of all the idea of "Gay" is a fairly new construct.

Even the term "homosexuality" is less than 200 years old. The idea of a man living with another man as a spouse is very very recent. I have little doubt that Gilgamesh bedded young men of his time, but that does not make him what you call "Gay". Probably most men of his status did that. Gay is a modern mindset.

The masculine homosexuals, a group that comprises the majority of homosexuals, usually stays invisible as these men are ashamed of being identified with the too visibly fem Gay minority and thus

Gender is a spectrum, though. What about a child who plays with hot mobiles AND Barbie? Of course, since effeminacy is more stigmatized, the fact that the hypothetical kid plays with Barbie probably overrides any "gender conformist" behaviors he might have in the minds of most "gender conformist" people. Still, I point to metrosexuals and hipsters, or even my many straight male friends who subtly turn up the radio when that Taylor Swift song is playing, as examples of what I'm talking about.
