"Amigos Para Siempre", or "Friends for Life" (lit. "friends forever"), is a song written for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. The music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The lyrics, written by Don Black, are in English, except for the title phrase which is repeated in English, Spanish and Catalan. The song was interpreted by Sarah Brightman and José Carreras during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games.The duet was also released world wide as a single to coincide with the Olympic games. It peaked at #11 in the UK charts. In one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group's concerts in Beijing, China, a Chinese version of this song was performed with approximately half of the lyrics in Mandarin and half in English . In this version, Amigos Para Siempre was replaced by "永远的朋友", which is "Friends Forever" in Chinese. The song was also used for the Shanghai 2007 Special Olympic Games, performed again by José Carreras and a Chinese soprano.
Andrew Lloyd Webber, Baron Lloyd-Webber (born 22 March 1948) is a British composer of musical theatre, the son of William Lloyd Webber and also the elder brother of cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. Lloyd Webber started composing at the age of six and published his first piece at the age of 9. Lord Lloyd-Webber has received great popular success, with several musicals that have run for more than a decade both in the West End and on Broadway. He has composed 13 musicals, a song cycle, a set of variations, two film scores, and a Latin Requiem Mass.
