this is a cold start. We are getting her ready to leave the terminal for a LONG nite on the mainline, Notice how this engine does not have the turbo charger..

  • @Weiberts You'd think that... but a long time ago, CSX had a GP38-2 on a siding with the cab doors left open... and no crew around. It was stolen... apparently started up and driven down their mainline and found miles down the way parked on another siding...

  • Why don't they put the starting switch up in the cab? Also, I saw in one of these that when the engineer went back to start the second unit on the fly there was no one at all in the cab. Is that allowed?  Is there a timer?

  • These locomotives dont have turbos.... they have a root style supercharger. We have them at Amtrak
