Like many video game franchises of the past, Sonic the Hedgehog is known for having memorable music. But did you know that sometime, some of the pieces of music that appear aren't actually new pieces at all?

It's worth noting that I've left out the origins of Green Hill Zone, Starlight Zone and the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as they all came from a popular J-Pop band, Dreams Come True. Mainly did so to avoid any copyright issues YouTube might try pulling. In fact, one of the band members helped make some of the music from Sonic 1. I would suggest looking them up!

  • no offense but are you a sonic hater?

  • @1kingdomheart Why would I be?

  • I think everyone knew about Windy Valley, Twinkle Circuit, and Sunset Hill.

You missed subtle comparisons like Death Egg (S&K) = Egg Carrier(SAdventure) = Techno Base (SAdvance2).

Dilapitated Way (SAdventure) was similar to Hydrocity (S3).

various SAdventure2 tracks recycled into Shadow's game.

I could get you an entire list of tracks if I could recall them off the top of my head.

Thanks for the S4 and S3D bit though. I knew it was recycled I just didn't know where it was from.

  • @The0nlyKyd Not one of those songs you mentioned sound alike in the slightest bit. o_O They're not even remixes of one another. I can't speak on behalf of Shadow because I've never played it, nor have any interest in it. As for Sweet Dreams, I mentioned in the description that I avoided all Dreams Come True music to avoid any copyrights issues.

  • What was the game at 0:45?

  • @VideoGameMasterKing It's the 3D hubworld from Sonic Jam, for the Sega Saturn.

  • well windy valley was an omage to 3d blast especially the bonus stage, because it was SA director Izuka's first sonic game he developed

  • @piranha483 Only one part of the instrumental sounds similar the rest is not.

  • well sonic advanced 3's sunset hill was obvious

  • "Back in Time" from Sonic R was remade into the Adabat music of the Sonic Unleashed

  • @TsukentoX i heard it wasn't intentional, but certain parts of the song strongly resemble the Green Hill Zone tune, and that is a fact you can hear with your own ears

  • Hmmmm...I'm a little skeptical calling Emerald Coast an actual remix of Spring Stadium Zone. Extremely similar as they sound (and despite how many Adventure tracks were actually borrowed from 3D Blast), the melodies sound too different to me.

Spot-on examples though (I even forgot Unleashed snuck one in themselves). I REALLY wish Sonic Team would do this more often though. But maybe being a Nintendo kid has spoiled me in that regard lol...
