Mourning is a labor of love, mourning, I do this with my LOVE for my PIETER
Grief is the price you paid for the strong bond you have built up with your love.
How big and strong is your relationship more toll must be paid.
Mourning never comes to an end...it is a process of Love and Remembering, not one of leaving behind' (S. Freud, )
This is for my PIETER too :

To My Dear and Loving Husband
A poem recited with love by
Ken Middleton from the United-Kingdom
The poem is by Leonard Cohen
'This Is For You' from Selected Poems 1956-1968
This is for you
it is my full heart
it is the book I meant to read you
when we were old
Now I am a shadow
I am restless as an empire
You are the woman
who released me
I saw you watching the moon
you did not hesitate
to love me with it
I saw you honouring the windflowers
caught in the rocks
you loved me with them
On the smooth sand
between pebbles & shoreline
you welcomed me into the circle
more than a guest
All this happened
in the truth of time
in the truth of flesh
I saw you with a child
you brought me to his perfume
and his visions
without demand of blood
On so many wooden tables
adorned with food and candles
a thousand sacraments
which you carried in your basket
I visited my clay
I visited my birth
until I became small enough
and frightened enough
to be born again
I wanted you for your beauty
you gave me more than yourself
you shared your beauty
this I only learned tonight
as I recall the mirrors
you walked away from
after you had given them
whatever they claimed
for my initiation
Now I am a shadow
I long for the boundaries
of my wandering
and I move
with the energy of your prayer
and I move
in the direction of your prayer
for you are kneeling
like a bouquet
in a cave of bone
behind my forehead
and I move toward a LOVE
you have dreamed for me.
Thank you Mr Ken Middleton for this wonderful poem. It is difficult to say what means this poem end your beautiful recited to me .
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. With all my respect to you.

  • I think this was very scary and the delivery sounds like someone who wants to be punished or something.... Freaked me out!!!

  • If you are ever interested or have a feeling to listen to some music that I am humbled & proud that many say they find 'ethereal & moving', that it 'transports them to another place & space within', it took me many years to begin recording because of having a seriously life-threatening cancer 3 times from the age of 14yrs.But I'm still here :) 'scarletinestudios' at myspace is where you can find my page, you are very welcome there-hope you enjoy it if you do (~.~)x kind thoughts xX.

  • @Vlinderwei11 It did not 'freak' *me* out at all (nor the other lovely souls below, obviously.x)..nor did I feel it sounded like someone wanting to be punished in any way...but perhaps, sadly that is where that listener's mind & emotions were at that time.Thank you for sharing this. It is a very beautiful & plaintive poem, tenderly & delicately expressed by your reading. I send comfort & love. I am a singer/musician & sing 1 of Leonard's songs amongst my own, I sing from my soul.xx

  • My heart is mourning for your love thank you so much for sharing this special poem to us... LOVE ALWAYS.

  • I do not know why to add just a few words more if he needs not any one more. Amazing!

  • this was great :-)

  • Poem written and recited by Ken Middleton for Leonardo Cohen, perfectly fits the artist, which in turn he had dedicate

his Peter, as a prayer for what was between them, and his

awakening from a dream, not very flattering!

    Poem recitation is overwhelming!

The content is full of: sesibilitate, tenderness and absolute dedication to love.
