Riding some winter snow trails with my rigid carbon mountain bike, local forests and woods. Sun is shining and it's just -8°C as springtime is coming and winter is finally giving up. Snow still carries you quite well :)

Recorded with a GoPro Hero with a chest mount and a crappy Sony dsc, 28th of March 2011, Oulu, Finland.

As for the speed, the whole video is at real speed. You can count the cadence if you wish, that's quite easy since you see the knees quite often ;)

The bike sits at 7.6kg (16.7lbs?), it's an all-rigid carbon Scott Scale with 2.4" and 2.25" Schwalbe Rocket Rons (26in) and a Niner rigid carbon fork. The trails are a bit slippery and icy once in a while, but those tires are really good on snow.

Soundtrack includes some foul language, viewer/listener discretion is advised.

F*cking and the hellhates - F*cking Sound
Cold Blue Rebels - Wormhole Hooker
Cold Blue Rebels - Drenched in Black
El Paso Killers - Ciudad Juarez Is Burning
Oleg Serkov - First Thing

Big thanks to all the artists. All music is under the CC BY-NC-SA license.

  • Damn that looks fun. Bummer that I broke my hip! Sorry, next time I won't ask such dumb questions without reading the included notes!

  • @schlooonginator Haha no problem :) Ye, the bike sits at about 16.7lbs and it's a 26er, even though it has a 29er fork. Works very well, as you can see :)

  • Well done! I live in Russia and also like winter riding. A pair of Schwalbe Ice Spiker Pro 2.35 is waiting for ice and snow! Just ordered a GoPro so get ready to watch some videos from Russia!

P.S. What pedals do you use in winter - clipless or platforms?

  • @igorchalov Thanks! I'm using clipless spd pedals.

  • I've an old school version of what you have because I am financially "challenged."

1992 Rocky Mountain Team Comp w/ Tange Ultimate Ultralight steel tubing, Kona triple butted Project 2 fork(96?), Original DX crankset, old XTR rear, DX front, new Crossride wheels, new FSA XC190 post, Syncros quill stem, oh and a set of NOS Suntour XC Expert shifters, but I run skinny slicks because its my only bike and I ride alot in town with light trails. A respectable 21.5lbs. A rigid 26er but steel. I love it.

  • 16.7! Wow, that's uber light, even for a road bike thats light! It must float over snow. Thought it loked like you went from a stop to fast in no time. The weight definitely helps there. That weight takes serious effort and money to achieve on a mtb.

  • Very cool is that aNiner carbon fork? How do you like it? Oh, and what does your bike weigh? I'm guessing around20lbs. Whoops I'm being shy at the guestimate, thought it was SS-still gotta be in the early 20s. 29er must be awesome in snow!

  • Awesome video, Awesome riding... I also enjoyed your video riding you're cycle cross bike. This inspired me, I am totally looking forward to winter riding here in Canada!
