  • @goozyman this bike has one of the most unique piston engines in the whole world.only a sucker wouldn't appreciate that

  • THE NR is a jewel of engineering, its motor, its oval pistons, a challenge that Honda and its people accept in 1992 when the Automotive said it was impossible to produce oval pistons, and that worked well, especially for the complexity o-ring

  • it was basically a 32v v8 with pairs of pistons joined. engineering feat, yes... but not very economically practical.

  • If I remember correctly the Oval pistons allowed them to have eight valves per cylinder

  • And they weren't "ovals", they looked like "race-tracks" with quite long "straights", so boring/drilling the "cylinders" shouldn't be very difficult either if it were needed later, that would be feasable with a normal drill, wouldn't it? Just drill downwards and then move the drill sideways? Maybe they made special tools for it, but it wouldn't be difficult anyway.: )

  • I don't remember anybody saying it was impossible back then, though. It's a lot more difficult to machine a rotary engine's "cylinder" and "pistons" than these things, so why would it be impossible?:)

  • @danilko332 because it was never really perfected and one of the reasons they didn't go on was because they liked to burn oil after a short while. as far as i know they all did, this didn't mean there was anything wrong with this motor its just how it ran.

  • @819sebas and your right the shape doesn't matter so much as long as you have a way of compressing fuel/air mix, but as for efficiency, when you get in that realm the shape means everything. for example 'HEMI's' semihemispherical pistons where made as an experiment to get your fuel/air mix to explode more evenly if you will by creating a high pressure build up in the middle. honda did make the motor and it did run, it would've needed more work to become reliable enough to sell(in other parts)

  • @819sebas one of the big things at play was the fact that it wasn't a traditional oval that was being created it was one that was curved than went straight for a short bit than back curved, so this made makeing rings a big task in itself, and than getting them to seat properly. this is one of those things that made people say it couldn't be done. what people probally meant to say was really, why would you you go through the trouble, and the confusion of can't/ impossible are like the second law

  • @819sebas well i used perpetual motion to compare to because its something that can't ever happen unless you have an enviroment with no forces upon it. so when you have a law written that says a specific thing can not happen, you allow a loop hole in the law, in the case of perpetual motion you have gravity at work here on earth so already you have went through the loop hole. in the case of oval pistons there where a bunch of things at play.

  • @turkeyguy0 but why people said it was impossible?? even if the piston is an oval it can provide a perpetual motion... and why its so amazing??? even if they invent square piston why it would not work?? all you need is something to comprensss air and gaz.... the shape doesnt matter.... ?

  • @819sebas at the time an oval piston was to an engine as perpetual motion is to the second law of thermodynamics. everyone said it couldn't be done and that it just was not possible and after alot of re-engineering and innovation honda did it.

  • ? if this engine is so great why didn't they start making all the bikes with this design

  • ? if this engine is so great why didn't they start making all the bike with this design

  • @gothecold holy shit

  • @819sebas

i only take them on Fridays not on Saturday or Sunday that comes afterwards. And i never want the weekends to end.

  • @emptii94 hu..... ? drugs are baaaaaaaad

  • @819sebas

its fun fun fun and makes you look forward to the weekend.

  • what is soooooooooo special to have an oval piston?

  • I have one :D but in scale 1/12 :(

  • Omg i cried when second NR came !!!

  • This thing isn't pretty like Victorias secret pretty, it's pretty like virgin Mayan princess pretty.
