The Hunslet Clubs' first female boxer was crowned National ABA Junior Champion. 16 year old Bianca Nixon was victorious in the national final for this highly competitative, coveted title in Portsmouth on Saturday June 5th 2010. In the 56kg Junior Class 5 she beat the very talented Danielle McKay of Bridgefoot 14-11
Having fought through a number of bouts since taking up the sport to a competitive level, against opponents from across England and Wales, Bianca explained "It was very nerve-wracking in front of so many influential people, but enjoyable. Loads of people dream of doing something like this and I've gone and done it and I'm so proud to be the first girl at the club to achieve a boxing title."
Dennis Robbins, Chief Executive Officer and Head Coach for the boxing team at the Hunslet Club is full of praise for the rising star. "Bianca has done incredibly well and we are very proud of her achievement. She fought consistently well throughout the contest and is a fantastic role model for other young girls to follow."
Girls and boys have plenty of opportunity to aspire to do well in the sport, Bianca now helps out with training sessions, led by professional boxing coaches, on weekday evenings for younger children to learn from her skills direct at The Hunslet Club.
