Would it be safe to use sg studs on that field?

It's still safe, but you won't get as much traxion as you would with FG studs, probably much safer to go with the FG for guarantee.

I'm behind the box which is 18 yards alone, so it's at least 18 yards some longer.

You have to practice your free kicks from all distances, short and long to become a better free kick taker.
