@geocgeo Bird took a no-name Indiana State team undefeated to the NCAA finals, Magic could not have done this, Jordan could not have done this, no one but Bird could have done this because he made those around him better than anyone ever when he was healthy. Jordan couldn't even lead North Carolina to a final 4 with Sam Perkins, Brad Daugherty and Kenny Smith on his teams in 83 & 84.

I love both these guys. Lets be honest here though, when Bird had success against MJ, the Celtics had a squad. Chicago was just MJ.  The celtics were supposed to win. MJ is the best player to ever play and Bird is a top 5 player in my book. You can't make a thread about how Bird dominated Jordan without facts. The Celtics dominated the Bulls then. Why? Because they were flat out better.

Bird is one of my all time favs, but Jordan could do more on both ends because of his athletic ability, i believe you cant compare them because they played different roles for their team and their styles where different... i repsect them both equally but because Jordan was just as fierce on defence as he was on offense i give him the edge....

@JamesDavern12 Lol, you're just like me, i don't like to use senteces like that, taling about God in vain, i'm catholic too, Larry Bird is the player that i admire the most, becasue he hadn't the body to play in the NBA but he was touch by God's finger and he was what we enjoyed many years, taht's why i'm a Celtic fan. The old Boston Garden made me cry.

@ubsilent357 Precisely what I was thinking! What might be interesting would be to put the Celtics of the 80s up against the Bulls of the 90s. The Bulls were superior defensively, but the Celtics were much better offensively. Let's not forget that on these little one-on-one match-ups, Bird was a forward with a 3-inch height advantage backing down a skinny 2-guard. However, I think Bird is still a better clutch performer, as great as Jordan WAS in the clutch.

@WassabiSushi Jordan was on a stacked North Carolina team and couldn't win after James Worthy went pro even though he still had a great team. Bird took a team that wouldn't finish in the top 40 to the NCAA Finals. Bird had joined an NBA team that finished in last place the year before he came.....to an NBA championship in his second year. It took Jordan 7 years to make his team win a championship. People can say what they want but face...it Bird could make no name teams win and Jordan couldn't.

Can't really compare Jordan to Bird from when they played, Jordan didn't hit is prime till after bird retired.

No one in the league, including Bird himself, ever disputes that MJ was the greatest ever. Bird wasn't even the best Celtic ever - that was Russell. But sure, Bird was probably a better player in his prime than Jordan in his first 2-3 years. But nobody ever had as big an impact on basketball than MJ. He single-handedly globalized the sport. Also, no one should forget that MJ led the 95/96 Bulls to 72 wins with only 1 and a half other all stars on that team. That will never be duplicated.

I'm a Larry supporter but even he admitted than MJ was better than him, even so, i have to say that Larry was more talented than MJ, if Larry had MJ's athleticism he would be the greatest player of all time.
