Make mercury (II) thiocyanate

To make mercury (II) thiocyanate aka mercury (II) rhodanide you will need water soluble mercury salt (I used mercury (II) nitrate) and ammonium thiocyanate (sodium thiocyanate also could be used). When these two solutions are mixed together mercury thiocyanate drops out. Filtrate it. Then wash it whith water. Dry it and use in your experiments.
Нg(NO3)2 + 2NH4NCS = Нg(NCS)2 + 2NH4NO3

Cool. Haven't seen this stuff for years. I believe it used to be sold in toy shops as indoor fireworks. Brings back memories of lighting the stuff on the kitchen table when I was around eight and it was fascinating to watch and it still is.
