This is the first (and likely only) flight of a UAV built as part of the 2008 aircraft design class at the University of Washington in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

The aircraft has a 7 foot wing span and weighs about 25 pounds, and is constructed of mainly Kevlar and plywood. Power comes from two 90mm Schuebeler electric ducted fans that generate more than 6 pounds of thrust each.

The flight took place at Naval Outlying Field Coupeville on Whidbey Island, and the pilot was Chuck Bower of the Whidbey Island Radio Control Society.

  • That is really awesome. Whoever was piloting this cool creation has some great skills! I assumed that it was broken into a million pieces upon landing after reading the first line in the description. Great video!

  • Thanks, I did a lot of the constuction myself. It didn't fly again because everyone graduated and no one cared anymore.

  • Looks like the love-child of a Boeing Airliner and a A-10 Warthog. Nice.
