2008 UW Senior Design First Flight

This is the first (and likely only) flight of a UAV built as part of the 2008 aircraft design class at the University of Washington in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

The aircraft has a 7 foot wing span and weighs about 25 pounds, and is constructed of mainly Kevlar and plywood. Power comes from two 90mm Schuebeler electric ducted fans that generate more than 6 pounds of thrust each.

The flight took place at Naval Outlying Field Coupeville on Whidbey Island, and the pilot was Chuck Bower of the Whidbey Island Radio Control Society.

That is really awesome. Whoever was piloting this cool creation has some great skills! I assumed that it was broken into a million pieces upon landing after reading the first line in the description. Great video!

Thanks, I did a lot of the constuction myself. It didn't fly again because everyone graduated and no one cared anymore.
