The first earthship in Florida construction progress as of 21 December 2009.

This 3,400 sq.ft completely off grid home is being build by general contractor Bryan Roberts with Eco-Tech Construction. Each of the 4 corners of the home will feature a dome, 2 of which have their framework completed. The centrally constructed wetlands will feature a 16 X 38 foot greenhouse glass atrium on top of the beams framing its perimeter. This area will function as a greywater recycling system that will double as an interior garden growing fruits & vegatables for the occupants.

Upon drying in the structure the Campus TV will host a major educational entertainment event on the premises.

  • The first one in Florida was built in Lake Helen in the 80's.

  • @dwkempf you are correct about that. This is something we were unaware of til recently. The reason we were under the impression ours is the first one is by going through the permitting process - something we took all the way up to the state level and it took almost a year. There was no record of anyone doing that prior and we also got that straight from Michael Reynolds (the earthship inventor).

  • What is your estimated final cost for your earthship?

  • this one is about $ 300,000 for 3,400 sq.ft. however that does take into account 9 months of permitting (as it was a first in Florida) & some real unusual features such as the 16 X 38 foot glass greenhouse with 20 ft ceilings.

we figured out some mass automation & continuation of this building philosophy to where we'll be introducing zero energy living below stickbuild costs in the near future

  • Final question(ran out of space above) is this a split-level Earthship? as I have not seen many of them apart for the Sweden one for a picture/site google *Swedens First Earthship* its the *Växhuset* link (should be the first one)

Thanks again for the upload look forward to seeing the final finish.

  • geodesic domes=higher frequency

so happy to see sacred geometry incorporated in the design Bryan!

  • I'll definetely be checking out that show...we've got several projects that would be perfect for that. We are actually introducing a brand new construction method inspired by these off grid principels first quarter 2010 - zero energy construction for mass production below conventional construction costs.

are you on Facebook? we can connect there.

  • Big interest in this since first came across it on a Channel4 show in the Uk called *Grand Designs* each episode they follow a build from start to finish, this particular one was an English couple building an Earthship in France. Just a quick note a relative in Oz had the idea to build a DomeHome with a massive Geodesic Greenhouse slap bang in the middle, the whole thing sounded awsome so will look forward to see how yours turns out..what a sight to wake upto hey:) of to check trailer/ more pics

  • Hey thanks for the quick response I was actually on the FloridaEarthship facebook page but having just looked at the actual Campustv facebook page I have spotted the 3 photos showing the layout, it looks big compared to the Brighton (UK) one.

    Sweet job keep it up.

  • No worries - glad to see your enthoused interest :-).

This is not a split level - everything is on 1 floor; 6 circular rooms around a 16 X 38 foot greenhouse atrium in the middle.

We are releasing an interactive documentary / reality show about all our projects & this construction process will be featured in much more detail than these walkthrough videos. check our Project 3.0 trailer for a preview.

  • hmmm....that should not be the case. send me an email to thecampustv at gmail & I'll shoot it over to you.

If you go to thecampustv page on Facebook there's a photo album called Earthship Florida; it's picture 57
