Half an hour before midnight on Tuesday April 12, a drunk driver of a BMW caused a head on collision at Laurel & Fountain in West Hollywood. The driver explains, "I really don't want to go to jail tonight. I'm drunk as shit." and even offers the other driver six thousand dollars as payment to settle the damages and not involve the sheriff.
After 20 years living on the corner of Fountain and Laurel, I've become quite adept at discerning the nature of a car accident by the sound. In this case, I heard a loud collision without the screech of brakes-- which tells me that one of the drivers either dropped dead behind the wheel, or more likely was drunk.

While trying to be the inconspicuous cameraman with the brand new Kodak Playtouch, my framing the scene was less than optimal but the essential elements are present and quite useful, I think.
I gave the sheriff's department a copy of the raw video file on a spare flash drive, as well as a verbal statement from myself as a witness to the BMW driver's statements.

Gladys Kravitz would be proud.

  • The driver has been identified as Andrew Roman Kafshi. He's a 23 year old aspiring actor represented by CAA. Look up his profile on Facebook. It own't be long before his butt is in jail ;-)

  • The drunk driver never returned to the scene. His BMW 325i was impounded and he has yet to come forward or be apprehended. Apparently, he was staying with a female who lives in the building on the corner (probably g/f). Now he faces felony charges for 'leaving the scene' as wellas admitting to DUI. He also tried to "bribe a witness" according to the cops' interpretation of his financial offer to the other driver.
