Grace Pettis performs "Lighthouse," a new song, live at Blue Rock Studio in Wimberley, TX. Help from Billy Crockett (guitar) and Dirje Smith (cello).

Lyrics:

LIGHTHOUSE
by Grace Pettis

There was a maiden, loved a sailor,
Who took to sea by the dawn's first light.
And though she begged him not to leave her,
He swore he'd come again before the night.

"Oh, my love, my truest lover,
I fear a storm is on its way.
For my heart is full of thunder
And my soul, swallowed up in blue and grey."

"But I will be your lighthouse,
And I'll guide you to shore.
Yes, I will be your lighthouse,
Until you sail no more,
Until you sail no more."

As the morning passed into evening,
Still no vessel did she see.
And so she took down to the shoreline
To tie herself against a sturdy tree.

Oh, the waters came and they rose around her
But still no struggle did she make.
The storm grew strong and the waters drowned her
But her will, they could not break.

"Oh, I will be your lighthouse,
And I'll guide you to shore.
I will be your lighthouse,
Until you sail no more,
Until you sail no more."

(Instrumental break)

The shipwrecked sailor found her
Cold and quiet, and on that tree.
He freed her from the ropes that bound her,
Made a noose to hang beside her by the sea.

With his dying breath, he begged forgiveness,
Swore he'd never part from her again.
And as he promised they'd be together,
He thought he heard her calling in the wind:

"I will be your lighthouse,
And I'll guide you to shore.
I will be your lighthouse,
Until you sail no more,
Until you sail no more."

Now, that old tree, it bears yellow apples,
As bright as a summer's day.
And the sailors swear they can see them shining
From one hundred miles away.

  • Thank you! And thanks for supporting my dad all these years. I do want to come to the UK- I'm visiting my mom in Ireland in November, and my agent and I are going to try to put together a few last minute Ireland dates... nothing's been done yet, but it's in the works. I'd really like to build a fan base over there, if for no other reason than that it means I'll get to see my mom in Limerick more. Hope that's close enough to where you are!

  • Went to the show last night primarily to see your dad again, but were absolutely blown away by your songs and amazing voice. So glad you're living in our area so we can bring friends to your local shows!

  • Oh my goodness!

    I'm so glad I found you :-)

  • This song is wonderful. The chorus is fantastic with the soaring voice. I only found about Grace recently via IMT's YouTube Channel, I'll have to listen to more. I'm sure there are people in Australia who would love to hear her.

  • You can drive from one end of the Republic to the other in four hours, so that's not a problem for any true Irishman who appreciates the beauty of the word and the song.

  • The voice of an Angel! Talent like this only comes along VERY infrequently!

  • This is a very beautiful song; I love songs from the sea. I have enjoyed your Dad's songs for many years but today is the first day I have heard you sing and I'm already a fan. Are you coming to the UK anytime soon?
