There's no doubt about it—when it comes to casting the villain, Gary Oldman is usually your go-to guy. He currently shines opposite Denzel Washington in the action packed thriller The Book of Eli.
The story centers on a lone hero named Eli (Denzel Washington) who must fight his way across the wasteland of post apocalyptic America to protect a sacred book that might hold the key to saving the future of humanity. Oldman plays Carnegie, the self-proclaimed leader of a small makeshift town devoid of standard necessities, services, and most noticeably, laws. Carnegie is determined to take possession of the book Eli is guarding and will stop at nothing to get it.
Tribute's Bonnie Laufer spoke with Oldman in Los Angeles about why he was so drawn to this role and how he's getting a little agitated over his nickname, "Scary Gary." He also lets us know how he feels about a possible reunion party for all of the cast and crew of the Harry Potter series, now that the films are finally coming to an end.

  • Gary Oldman is one of those actors who's good at just about ANY role. He's done a VARIETY of roles throughout his career.

  • I'd tap that.

  • @GuiltyBlackGuy stansfield in the professional, drexl in true romance, state of grace

  • I thought Oldman made a fantastic enemy. Anyone have a movie title suggestion for another role he is played as evil? idc how old lol

  • I don't like to see him as the villian, although he played the part well. I loved Denzel in his part.

Gary Oldmans next to get his Oscar...

  • It suprises me that so many don't know he's English, myself am "suprised" over the fact that the Englishman hasn't recieved any Oscars yet.

  • He looks a bit like Eric Clapton.....no bad thing, also my favorite actor, among the best my nation has to offer

  • Mr. Oldman has a tendency to play bad guys whose dark adventures end in tragedy. Other than that, we love him because he´s fucking crazy!

  • haha I've commented on this so many times. But I finally got around to watching this movie (loved it), and Gary as Carnegie was just so . . . I freaking hated him. I hated his voice, his facial expressions, his limp - and then I see this interview and it's just the polar opposite. What a fantastic actor <3

  • I swear to god that wonderful scarf of his is sewn on to his neck or something! But what a beautiful, talented person he is <3
