Our mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma 12+ years ago. 2 years later she underwent her 1st stem cell transplant (using her own cells) at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Tx. While the process was not easy on her she ended up living the next 10 years relatively normal (good days and bad, mostly good). The opportunity came for a 2nd transplant (this time from a donor) we knew it was going to be a battle. With the odds of complete remission in her favor she put her gloves on for a fight. She passed in August not from MM itself but other complications from her long hospitalization and low immune system. She is our HERO!! The research and technology have come a long way since we were dealt this hand, but still has ways to go. Our mother passed knowing what she went through would benefit other patients and families that are faced with MM. Thank you.

  • This brought tears to my eyes. My husand has MM and is currently doing well, but we understand that we most likely have to battle again.... this insideous disease.

You have a wonderful family and I am sure your Mother apprciated all that you did for her. May she rest in peace.

  • @Gail1201 Thank you for taking the time to view and comment on our video. It wasnt an easy tribute to make. Our mother passed knowing what she dealt with since April '10 was for the greater good of MM patients and families everywhere! Have hope that a cure will be found soon!! Research and technology has come a long way since we started this journey with her 12+ years ago when anyone knew little about MM. Our prayers are w/you and your family always.

  • My mother has MM too and strangely, your mother looks a lot like my mother, so this was very hard to watch. My mum will have a double transplant soon under a clinical trial, as her MM is very advanced. Thanks for sharing. I think I'm going to buy myself a camcorder and do the same thing. I want my kids to remember their grandmother and I'm afraid that they won't.
