Silence fell again. Frodo, even in that fair house, looking out upon a sunlit valley filled with the noise of clear waters, felt a dead darkness in his heart. Boromir stirred, and Frodo looked at him. He was fingering his great horn and frowning. At length he spoke.
"I do not understand all this," he said. "... Why do you speak ever of hiding and destroying? Why should we not think that the Great Ring has come into our hands to serve us in the very hour of need? Wielding it the Free Lords of the Free may surely defeat the Enemy. That is what he most fears, I deem. The Men of Gondor are valiant, and they will never submit; but they may be beaten down. Valour needs first strength, and then a weapon. Let the Ring be your weapon, if it has such power as you say. Take it and go forth to victory!"
"Alas, no," said Elrond. "We cannot use the Ruling Ring. That we now know too well. It belongs to Sauron and was made by him alone, and is altogether evil. ... The very desire of it corrupts the heart. ... And that is another reason why the Ring should be destroyed: as long as it is in the world it will be a danger even to the Wise. For nothing is evil in the beginning.
(....)
"Now ..., what would you ask? Do you wish for the House of Elendil to return to the Land of Gondor?" said Aragorn.
"I was not sent to beg any boon, but to seek only the meaning of a riddle," answered Boromir proudly. "Yet we are hard pressed, and the Sword of Elendil would be a help beyond our hope-if such a thing could indeed return out of the shadows of the past." He looked again at Aragorn, and doubt was in his eyes.

  • not that impressive when a girly man has to stand up for you.

  • @xMrDavid2112x If you think Legolas is girly, then you've understood nothing about the nature of Tolkien elves!

  • @PennySmart

Buts its not Tolkien's elves its Orlando Bloom in a wig. Seriously he surfs down the steps of Helm's Deep on a shield firing tens arrows at once ffs- Mr JRR would have facepalmed

  • @DominionOfTheSword "Surfs down the steps of Helm's Deep", granted, probably the worst moment of the 3 films!! :(

But Legolas (or O. Bloom, wig or no wig) is not "girly". He looks positively fierce at times while still retaining an elvish grace (though possibly not a brilliant actor when it comes to speech).

  • @bigmatt101 True, that's why it's Boromir again in the game of thrones.... it's a gift....

  • I cry every time I see Boromir's death scene

  • @bigmatt101 Agreed! People are always bewildered when I say he is my favorite character.

  • I allways have chills when i watch this, the great thing about lotr, it is not just a story, it is masterpiece it is the life of tolkien. And i really love how humans are described greedy, Rip Tolkien, Greatest Poet and writer of all time.

    Respect from the younger generation!

  • i think boromir's original idea was had a higher % chance of success than gandalf's crazy scheme...if they were to run the instance repeatedly, frodo and sam would probably get captured 99% of the time.

  • @estagonandfire It supposedly turns all who use it to evil. I know.

My point was that if Frodo merely claiming the ring caused Sauron's power to be damaged severely instantly... then he should have done this at the start of the book.

AFTER summoning the power to wipe out the Orcs, then he could destroy it.

Then again it's never made clear what the ring can even do. NONE of the rings are ever shown to do anything useful besides invisibility.

  • @DGneoseeker1 read up on the lore, you clearly did not understand the meaning of aragon's words.

  • There's a bit of a problem with the crap Aragorn is talking here.

Frodo claimed the ring as his own, and that worked... So much for it only answering to Sauron...

  • i could eat sean bean on a cracker.

  • Great scene with great soundtrack of the gratest movie :-)
