I love open air markets. I'm fond of the 2 big ones in Seoul, too - NamDaeMun and DongDaeMun, but I still prefer the one in Taejon: Chungang Market. For one thing, it's right next to the nice stuff in Unhaeng-dong, and above the subway mall, so what more can you ask for. They have inexpensive eating and fresh ingredients of all kinds. The best kimchi and gooksu (noodle soup) is here. Prices on all kinds of things are wonderfully affordable. I just like the vibe and visit often. 12 years ago, when I lived downtown, we'd treat this market as our supermarket. My favorite thing was the small stuffed shell fish my wife used to make (garlic, green onion, red pepper, sesame seeds, oil and soy, etc). This is a great place to load up on fresh shellfish.
