Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the incredibly rare and hard to fine song "Ticket for the Wind", by the late great John Stewart.

Probably best known for playing during the end credits of the infamous "Smokey and the Bandit Part 3", this is an awesome song that I strongly recommend you listen to.

The link to download this song is availble on the blog here http://polyvinylman.blogspot.com/2009/02/ticket-for-wind.html scroll down and you should find the link...

Burt Reynolds makes a cameo at the end which is utterly nonsensical, but I think the producers wanted to somehow make up for the Burt-lessness of the previous 80 or so minutes of the movie. It doesn't help. Just when you are feeling completely depressed for watching this travesty, the ending credits roll with a song from former Kingston Trio head John Stewart titled, "Ticket for the Wind." Although it's a great song, the downbeat quality is completely inappropriate for a farcical comedy. Think "Tom Dooley" with an 80s electronic beat. You can listen to it here.

  • Even though Smokey and the Bandit part 3 was a terrible movie, this song always made me incredibly sad. It sort of brought closure to the trilogy, and it depressed me to know there weren't going to be any more.

  • @InfraredCentipede

Smokey and the Bandit 3 was also one of the final movies Jackie Gleason made before he died... making it all the more depressing, because the song makes you think of Gleason/Sheriff Justice...

  • was an absolute horrible movie, but i must say when this song played at the end, it was sad, knowing the series were done, and to think jerry and jackie are gone now, goes with the song

  • @InfraredCentipede i know what u mean, it always depressed me 2

  • On the end credits of the DVD I have of SatB3, and here, the song is mono. Does anybody know if this is how it is on the soundtrack?

  • Yes I love this tune, but it is truly a sad haunting song. What makes this so deep and emotional, is that it's really about our mortality and that we are all going to die one day. "Ticket for the Wind" (living life in the fast lane) will eventually be over when the end comes as in the lyrics "I'm (the grim reaper/death) behind you now and you can never win" (live forever) and your days are getting thin (life is soon coming to an end).

Sorry to be so depressing :(

    Peace.

  • @dbeard451 I wouldnt say that! 1 is the best by far , but 3 is way better then 2..
