The Baliem Valley in the highlands of West Papua remains one of the remotest corners of the planet. Sealed off from the world by its geography and more recently by the Indonesian government. The latest phase of an Indonesian military campaign to eradicate the Papuan independence movement and its armed wing the OPM, is being fought against the highlanders. Around 5,000 people have been driven away from their villages into the bush, many have been killed. We profile events with film smuggled out from this remote Pacific warzone.

@Killayut Those Papuans whom rebel against the tyranny of Indonesian government are mostly composed not of those who still live the pure tribal way, most of them whom rebel are already exposed to outside, because their new ways of living demand better quality of life but the morons in the so-called Indonesian "People's Representative Council" doesn't seem to give a shit.

@TheRiverVolga  I do not know what you mean by development but if The streets of this place were well constructed, Electricity provided, Basic Amenities provided.. Would these people stop being naked ? be civilized like the people of BAHAMAS ? understand and use computer like the Chinese ? Wear good cloths like the Italians ? @Killayut Mostly economic rights, if the benefits from Papuan resources such as their gold and silver are allocated to the development of Papua itself such dissent wont happen, what is happening right now is the money Indonesians gain from Papuan resources are either corrupted by government officials or allocated only for the development of Sumatra and Java, if you are finding who to blame don't blame the people or the nation of Indonesia, blame the retards at Indonesian government.

If West Papua is able to secede from Indonesia

it will turn into another backwards American exploited

dictatorship just like many other newborn states that is rich

in natural resource.

The only way to resolve this problem

and bring peace and prosperity for the Papuans

is that the Indonesian must care about the

development of Papua and give them equal rights

as the rest of the country.
