  • A Peruvian horse called Santorin ran in one Forego's race in 1974 and finished 3rd, does anybody know what race is it? Is there a video of that race? Please reply if you know tha answer, I'll be more than glad to know!

    Thank you in advance!

  • Hi. I have Forego's complete and official past performance chart with the results from all 57 of his races, and there's no listing of Santorin finishing 3rd, anywhere. However, Key To The Kingdom was disqualified in Forego's last race of 1973, but the horse that replaced him in 3rd wasn't listed. It's possible Santorin was placed 3rd instead, but wasn't printed in the chart. Santorin rings a bell for me; I've seen that name before. Thanks for the question; I'm just sorry I couldn't help you out.

  • I can't believe I found all of these Forego videos here on YouTube. This horse was one of the greatest horses I ever saw run and probably the best handicap horse ever.

    Thanks for the great memories!

  • Glad you enjoyed them! Thank you for the comments.

  • WHat the?!? My subscription to you seems to have vanished!! I didn't know you posted all of these delicious Forego vids!! All I can say is my eyes are gonna be pretty tired tonight!!! THANK YOU!!!

  • Hey, sorry about the subscription vanishing; I've read about accounts disappearing after site maintenance being completed and then re-appearing, if I remember correctly.

Happy you're enjoying the Forego videos. Thank you for your kind words.

  • I recently learned that Arbees Boy's trainer George Weckerle Jr. passed away on Nov.30, 2010 in Arcadia, California; he as 93. Arbees Boy was a 60-1 in the 1974 Met Mile and managed to come from seventh in a field of eight to beat Forego. Eddie Maple was his rider in that race. Arbees Boy was a good horse and for some reason I've always liked the sound of the name, a real old-time American race horse kind of name.

  • @cde41 A great uncle is a brother of one's grandparent. Zenyatta's grandmother is For the Flag. For the Flag and Forego were sired by Forli.

  • @patteel

Sorry to inform you but Forego was a gelding. He didn't sire any horses and he is not Zenyatta's great-uncle, just great.

I saw him up close at the Kentucky Horse Park. He was as big as a clydesdale.

As for Zenyatta, she may compare with Forego in looks and racing style but she is no Forego in ability. No filly will ever compare with a horse of Forego's calibre.

  • my horse SweetBriar Road is related to him

  • I love Race Horses from Argintina. Dan Isidro, Palemo, La Plata Hippodromo

  • YES, Argintine Blood. Foredo is by Forli.

  • does anyone remember what was wrong with forego in the 73 derby,i know he had something physically wrong and he was out of the next two?

  • I was there. He was a monster. The only horse you could put $2,000 to show on and get a free $100 bill each time. Many a steak dinner in Ozone Park,

  • A two-mile (i.e., 16f) race. They knew what horses could do in those days.

Nowadays the JCGC is run at 10f.

    >:-P

  • i see Zenyatta's bloodline. even the shape of the horse is exactly like zenyatta.

no wunder Zenyatta has that powerful kick, her uncle forego carried no less than 130 lbs. every race

  • Does this video remind anyone else of Forego's, Great-niece Zenyatta ?

  • forego was simply the greatest.

  • i was 9 years old in 1975 i saw forego run in these races then thats when i fell in love with racing.he had such a big heart and seemed to love to run. i started an extensive collection of horse racing articals back in 75 in one artical shoemaker said forego was the best he had ever ridden. i agree.

  • Santorin was a great Peruvian horse, probable the best one we've ever had. He won the four crowns here in Lima in 1973, and at the end of the year ran the "Carlos Pellegrini Grade 1" race in Argentina with the best hores in South America and won by 13 lengths, obviously the best horse in this part of the globe. It's a pitty I've never seen that video because for a strange reason it's very difficult to find. I'll keep on searching for that race, thank you anyway.

    God bless!

  • Wish I knew where you found all these races but this better than anything on TV. I never really got to see Forego run.

  • Thank you both for the kind comments. Forego had a fight and power in him that most horses can only dream of.

Wishing a wonderful week to you both!

  • Well said! A multi-faceted horse.

    Take care.

  • Boy he took OVER on the turn and down the stretch. A sprinter AND a stayer, that's Forego!
