I found a fix for this issue, i know this video is 2 years old but i'll post this for anyone else who needs this
Push the button in the front with the light on it and blow on the 2 holes that latch on to the lid when you close the laptop, this will clear any debris you have in there preventing the laptop from closing

Yeah, I took it to the Genius Bar and the guy sent it in for repair. I got it back and it works great. I still hope, though, the next Macbook Pro has a magnetic latch like it's little brother.
