Funny, isn't it? Back in the 60's you could make a blatant reference to pot on a major network and people would laugh. Nowadays if you tried the same thing, our government would say you're advocating terrorism and the corruption of our children. How I wish I'd been born 20 years earlier...

A few years ago I saw an interview with Dick Martin. He said that the censors didn't understand most of the drug references. They didn't know the slang meanings of "grass" and "pot" and just thought it was surreal humor. He said believed that if they had known what the jokes were about, they would have censored them. I don't know if this is true, but it was his perception at the time.
