This is by far one of the most impressive songs recorded in the late 1960's. If you listen, you will see how Jimmy Webb created a composition that was very far ahead of it's time. Only later did television use many of the elements of Jimmy's talent displayed here. And, Richard's rederning of this song is without compare. Thank you Donna, but nothing will ever touch this. God Bless you, Jimmy and Richard.

  • @HHH100 whats wrong with lefties? sure our handwriting sucks but come on...

  • Only six seconds into those elegant opening chords and I'm carried right back to my awkward girlhood. I loved this song but trusted very few people with the information convinced they'd never understand. All these years later I still think I'm right about that... And do you love that uptempo break at 4:53? *swooning* :-) Jimmy Webb, thank you.

  • Betty Crocker baked a cake for her lover, the Pillsbury Dough Boy. She waited for him for hours at MacArthur Park until it started to rain. Unable to handle being stood up, she left, leaving the cake out in the rain. Don't call her a litter bug, though. She took the cardboard box it was on leaving only the cake. She knew it would be eaten by the ducks, geese, etc. before it got to moist to eat. As for the Pillsbury Dough Boy, he became a dozen biscuits for breakfast. Betty ate well.

  • God, that poor cake, what a tragedy.

  • @critchley3819 I do understand what he's saying; I looked up the whole backstory and I understand the significance of the park and the metaphor of the cake. By the way, did you know it has won "Worst Overall Song" in at least one poll and "Worst Lyrics" in several polls and lists? Check it out on Google if you don't believe me; read the Wikipedia page and search "macarthur park worst."

  • One of the most beautiful bridges.....

  • @juvenilehall1979 haha... I don't think the metaphors or singing are very good... but they did get a laugh out of my family, so for that, I'm grateful :)

  • @heyfuzzycub Yes ... it's a metaphor ... what a great one.

There is a real MacArthur Park in L. A. Enjoy all the

great singing, the orchestra (the great strings) and the

"Wrecking Crew" --- the people that "made" this song

    so great.

of the great MUSIC ! Hats of to Jimmy Webb and we all remember

Sir Richard ..... and I can't stress enough "The Wrecking Crew." Thanks ..
