Watch President Obama's remarks on Armenian concerns during an April 6th joint press conference with Turkey's President Abdullah Gul and, later, his speech at the Turkish Parliament.

Armenian National Committee of America Executive Director Aram Hamparian issued the following statement following President Obamas remarks before the Turkish Parliament.

In his remarks today in Ankara, President Obama missed a valuable opportunity to honor his public pledge to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

The Presidents willingness to raise his commitment to recognizing the Armenian Genocide, even indirectly, in his remarks before the Turkish Parliament represents a step in the right direction, but far short of the clear promise he made as a candidate that he would, as President, fully and unequivocally recognize this crime against humanity. We expect that the President will, during Genocide Prevention Month this April, stand by his word, signaling to the world that Americas commitment to the cause of genocide prevention will never again be held hostage to pressures from a foreign government.

  • The centenary of Armenian Genocide is fast approaching!

The Armenian Genocide Recognition "SHOULD BE FINALIZED"!

And both Mr. Obama and Gul know that very well!

And The Armenian Genocide WILL BE RECOGNIZED one or another way!

  • This is BS, nothing in life is fair. I want to trust Obama but i cannot, if he does he will be under an enormous amount of pressure. We Armenians will have the world recognize it, because it happend it was real. I get goose bumps every time i think of our peoples struggle. Obama and Turkey do not be cowards, just recognize the truth.

  • Of all the presidents, Obama would be most related to the Armenian genocide, i mean his own people were once slaves not that it was a genocide but it was just as bad.

  • There are actualy 3 million Armenians living in Anatolia. there are 2.5 million Hamashen Armenians living in east Anatolia and 500 000 Armenians, as well as people with Armenian decendants. Geniology of the turkish people shoes Armenian ancestry for one in every 6 people.

  • Mr. President, speak up the truth and be not ashamed or afraid of anything, it is moments such these that one can proof his ideals and where he stands, this is the moment, I hope you can get this.

  • President Obama- leading to coexistence or a new Chamberlin?

The call for good relations with Muslims is a good step

However,to succeed it has to be matched by Muslim leaders.

If Muslim leaders will implement in their countries:

    Women equality,people Multicultural right and not only Islam,protect Human Rights,stop the Hate Teaching in some madreses and schools,stop funding some mosks preaching for Islam worldwide by force;

    Than Obama will succeed.

Otherwise he will be a new Chamberlin

  • Armenians should use the Republican method and complain about this until he caves in and recognizes it.

  • Obama sadly a liar just like the rest. He has to be to be President.

I believe he will do good things, but this was a great opportunity to stand for what is right and he spent nearly 3 minutes side-stepping the question. It saddens me to see him speak in this interview. The way he slowly pieces each sentence together to think about how each word affects him and his Country politically.

If he said what he felt, it would come out fast and effectively.
