This is a song about the Massacre of striking coal miners,in Ludlow, Colorado. It was one of the most brutal attacks on organized labor in North American history. It took place on April 20, 1914. In response, the miners armed themselves and attacked dozens of mines, destroying property and engaging in several skirmishes with the Colorado National Guard.

Oliver Vincent Hirsch was a coal miner from West Virginia. When you hear his song, you know it's from his heart. But this song is not about him - it is about the struggle of thousands of men, who down through the years have had to labor for the owners - and who have fought the owners every inch of the way.

  • Thanks (from Loveland!). I hope to make a better video someday. For now I just wanted to get the music out there.

  • It's strange, all the stuff that's gone down on April 20. Between Hitler's birth and Columbine and Ludlow. This is a beautiful song though. As a Colorado native i really appreciate your posting this.

  • @Scribblistic You are so welcome. Please pass it around!

  • Like the resistance of the Warsaw Gehtto -- doomed but an eternal inspiration to those who follow and a testimony to the dignity of humanity.
