14th Street: Ronnie
Ronnie plays guitar on the 14th Street downtown track. Ronnie came to
New York thirty years ago, leaving behind a house, a girlfriend, and a day job to
pursue a career in music. Instead this led to a ten-year heroin addiction and life on
the streets, eventually bringing him underground. DOWNTOWN LOCALS documents
the unbreakable cycle between drug use and dependency, which makes a livelihood
elsewhere impossible.

  • Ron grew up in Baltimore (on Kenoak or Rogers in Mt. Washington ) and had a twin sister Martha). When my Father a Navy Doctor got out we settled on the block next to the Raffles and we became great friends. Ron's dad was a prominent physician at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and worked with my father. After School I never saw Ron until 1980 when I was attending NYU film school and saw him at 6th Ave and West 4th and once more near my home on Greenwich St. about 3 or 4 years ago.

  • Ron Raffel is a fine musician. I know him personally, but haven't seen him in a very long time, maybe 3 years. He left one of his guitars at my house. Does anyone know his whereabouts or if he's even still alive? He's not been at the downtown F on 14th St. for a long long time. I miss you Ron. ~N

  • Ronnie is my old and best long lost friend

. I send you all my love and wish to see you once more.

    Joel from Baltimore

  • Is this guy from Baltimore?
