The Nun's Story (1959) Part 14 ENDING --For more Audrey Hepburn Films visit my channel and please return the favor by subscribing, liking, favouriting or leaving a comment.
--Making 'The Nun's Story' was a daring decision both for Audrey Hepburn and for Warner Brothers in 1958. It was the true story of Belgian Nun Marie-Louise Habets ("Sister Luke"), whose devotion is ever at war with her vow of obedience. She is sent to work as a nurse in the Belgian Congo, where her inner struggle unfolds through a series of medical crises and an intense relationship with the surgeon she serves. The backdrop is World War 2 and her moral dilemma is compounded by the question of whether to assist the Resistance after her father is killed by the Nazis.

  • She had such a sensitive & hesitant personality. That could never make a good nun,

Always being doubtful about herself and actions, that's not what God wants to see. we should always do our best to correct ourselves instead of feeling hopeless, giving up and leaving the convent.

  • whats with the ending:( not a so happy ending

  • I'm glad someone here agrees. One of the best endings ever. I think the music has a lot to do with it.

  • Now, her and Dr. Peter Finch can get it on!

  • PS-- @mguilfordtx , on your recommendation I went on Amazon and looked up _The Spiral Staircase_. It looked good, so I ordered it, and should have it this week. For anyone else who's interested, they had numerous used copies for one cent each (!), plus $3.99 shipping.

  • @truth128 , you don't have a single clue what you're talking about. Have you ever talked to an ex-nun before? You're talking to one now, and I can tell you that NO one ever leaves lightly, in search of "casual life". It is a wrenching move, made for deep reasons of soul and integrity, and judgmental people like you just make it harder.

  • Thank you,great film.

  • This was truly fantastic, thanks for sharing.

  • @Truth128 Define a good nun

  • @freefalln329 Oh give me a break! You don't know what you are talking about. Provide the site information.

  • To anyone judging this woman negatively for leaving the convent, I invite you to read "The Spiral Staircase" by Karen Armstrong.

  • I think she would have been very happy going back to the Congo to nurse, and to be free of the stiffling rigors or the convent and the man-made "Rule of the Order". She could be free to be herself to show all the love, care, sympathy and good example to all the natives. Plus, she and Dr. Fortunati most likely did love each other. He surely loved her. They probably could be very happy together. That's what I think she did after she left the motherhouse.
