The 2009 Physics & Astronomy Open House at Indiana University included a hands-on lesson in how to make a comet. Ingredients include: water, ammonia, dirt, corn syrup, and dry ice.
A couple hours later, the comet didn't look as pretty, but it retained enough mass to make it to our freezer. I fear this is a summer snow ball accident waiting to happen.

@Damnation1444 We still have one of the two homemade comets in our basement freezer. It lasts about 8 hours otherwise.
