I have heard about the "Old Home Place" or as some call it the "Old Hays Place" all my life. Though I never got to set foot in it, I have heard family talk about it for years. Stories that will make one laugh one minute and cry the next. The "Old Home Place" is still standing on the Yellow Dog Road less about 2 miles from where I live now.

In May, my cousin, Donna Wilson, was seriously injured while being a chaperone on a school bus in Carlisle county that tragically took the life of a precious 6 year old boy. One of my other cousins, Kendra Gehring, came up with the idea of a Hays/Hayes private page so family could post how Donna was doing and be able to keep up with her progress. Anyway that page went from that to family posting pictures up of the "Old Home Place" and their childhood there. Let me tell you, the page is filled with old photos and lots of memories. Another cousin, Kenny, came up with the idea of taking all these pictures and putting them in a Power Point and showing them at our family reunion last month. So my wife, Debra, and I took on that project, and it was a big success, judging from all the feed back we got at the reunion. But this isn't about what Debra and I did. This is about a family. A family that, like all families, has gone through trials and struggles.

Donna was able to come to the reunion and she stood up and talked to all of us and thanked us for the prayers and the support, but then she said something that really hit me hard. She apologized for ruining everyones summer for having to worry about her.I could not believe what she just said. Here is a woman with a broken back apologizing to us. Donna, we all owe you a BIG THANKS for being the inspiration that day to all of us. It is because of what she said that this video means more to me than it did the night we made it. I love my family....all of them. I never want to lose touch with any of them. There was a rejuvination in our family that Sunday afternoon of what family means and how each and everyone one of us are important. So with my family's permission we want to share this video in hopes that other families could be inspired like we have been.

The name of the video is "The House That Built Me." The song "The House That Built Me" was written and performed by country music artist Miranda Lambert. I hope those who watch it enjoy it as much as Debra and I did making it.
