At COCA, we believe that training in the arts is essential to a complete education. COCA is dedicated to providing opportunities in the arts to the entire St. Louis community, and we devote much of our resources to programs for children who might not otherwise have access to arts education. Since 1993, the Urban Arts Program has made arts education, performance, and hands on experiences available to more than 50,000 children. The philosophy of this program embodies a developmental approach to arts education which considers the physical, emotional, and artistic interests, needs, and capabilities of each student. All programming is provided at no cost to the participants and is sustained entirely by contributions from the local community and national funders.

In addition, a significant proportion of COCA students, have been accepted to excellent post-secondary dance programs including: The Juilliard School, State University of New York at Purchase, North Carolina School of the Arts, Alvin Ailey Dance Center, School of American Ballet, and New World School of the Arts. Several COCA alumni are members of professional companies, such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ballet Hispanico, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Houston Ballet, Trisha Brown Dance Company, Philadanco, and The Boston Ballet. Many others are performing on Broadway and in professional venues all over the world.
