Homemade crab trap

scott, simon and me were bored so we decided to go crabbing in newport but had no trap... so we BUILT ONE!.
It's made out of storage cube walls, zip ties, and 2 pound dumbell weights., thats it. the weights are at the corners to keep the side wall from moving in to far keeping the cube shape going up and weighing it down so it falls to the ocean floor.

@theflyfishkid We usually zip tie bargin chicken peices from the grocery store to the cage. Seems to work well.

could you set up a video on how you made it? or at least some close ups? im curious to see if there are flaws...

@scifiaudious2 the only real flaw that you could argue is the top, but it being colapsable it also allows easy access for crabs to get to the bait. I usually pull up every 10 minutes and usually catch something, fearing that leaving it too long will cause crabs to lose interestest and leave.

PRETTY GOOD BUT THE CRABS WILL COME AND GO AS THEY PLEASE IF YOU HAD A REGULAR CRAB POT YOU WOULD HAVE TWICE AS MANY(excuse the caps lock i didnt realize it was on)

@clokedbigman maybe, but it's also really easy for the crabs to gather at the bait because it full collapses on the ocean floor. I'm not going to claim that it's the best trap, but It was one that we made in a pinch and had some success with

of course it will work dumbshits,most crap traps arent actual cages,when u lift the rope the sides close and the crabs are trapped in the box,you are supposed to bring them up every 10-20 minutes,and i kno they catch crab i use traps like this all the time

@jtazzi99 who told you that all crab cages have doors a side ? and how old are you to jude on people if they are stupid or not !! i dont wanna treat you the same because you even cannot spell CRAB correctly.

regarding the guys who made the crab trap from scratch i really admire them.However this kind of traps you have to stay and check the cage every fuckin time otherwise the crab will escape. for me i love the ROUND/OCTAGON crab trap.
