I've got to be there? But wait I have to wait six more years to be born first...

The World's Fair in 1982 left the city of Knoxville 40+ million dollars in debt & the 1984 Fair in New Orleans went bankrupt, taking government funds just to keep the thing open until it was supposed to end. No wonder there hasn't been another one in the U.S. since.

I visited the World's Fair in Knoxville back in 1982. Going up in the Sun Sphere was the highlight of the day.

Oh man, the 3 hour line to get in the Japanese pavillion was torture. But once you got in, it was totally worth it. And everytime I visit Knoxville, I make it a point to hit up Petro's, since they closed the one here back around 2001.

Guess we should all say thanks to Jake Butcher.

I'm originally from Knoxville I remember one year before it opened they had a 365 day countdown. everyday on the news they'd say "The World's Fair is coming in __ days!" The Sunsphere had a restaurant in it and it rotated so you could see the city. I never got to go to the Fair though. My cousin did, he saw the Steelers play the Patriots.
Sadly, we've only had one more world's fair in the United States since 1982: the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition. We're working on bidding for 2020, though... a world's fair in Silicon Valley.
