es heißt canon weil sich meines wissens ein segment der melodie zeitlich versetzt wiederholt... wie im canon!
ich bin mir nicht sicher ob ich es korrekt wiedergegeben habe, entschuldigt meine mangelhafdte musiktheorie! aber es ist in jedem fall eines der frühbaroken und schönsten lieder die jemals komponiert wurden!

canon and cannon are different lol. I believe canon has something to do with religion. My history teacher was like "during the canon era..." and stuff than he connected it with the church

You're kinda right if you were talking about religion. But in music a canon or Kanon is when melody is imitated again and again but with subtle changes throughout. It's usually played alongside one or more counterpoints or a part of the music that is independent of the melody.

Maybe I should add that for some critics Pachabel's canon isn't technically a canon in the strictest sense.

jellinto: Apart from the fact, that Bach studied with Pachelbel for some time, you shouldn´t worry about the picture. Another video with Pachelbels Canon shows MOZART, and he had nothing to do with this gentleman.
