In November 1990, F-Zero was one of the launch titles for the Super Nintendo along with Super Mario World.

Those two games gave the public the first examples of what they could expect from Nintendo's machine. If Super Mario World was the leap of Nintendo's flagship character into 16-bit technology, F-Zero became THE paradigm for racing games.

It's not difficult to understand why. Rather than simply dragging the sprites along the background, which is what most racing games did at that time, F-Zero used a vital characteristic of the Super Nintendo, Mode 7 technology.

Mode 7 allowed the games to engage in rotations, zoomings and scalings, giving them a sort of pseudo-3D look while maintaining their speed unaltered. This is obvious when we look at F-Zero, the whole track and background rotate according to the moves of our car, giving us the impression that everything was moving.

F-Zero became a cult-game on its own merits. The graphics were excellent, the control was near perfection, the speed was simply incredible and the soundtrack is an example of what videogame music should be.

From a choice of three different leagues, each one with five tracks and four difficulty levels, the last of which ["Master level"] can be extremely demanding, we must speed along in our 24th century cars at an average speed of 400km/h (reaching up to 900km/h when the proper boost is used) and taking care not to hit the devices on the sides, as they damage our shield and can cause our car to explode. The only thing F-Zero lacked was a 2-player mode.

Enjoy the first two tracks from Knight League, Mute City I and Big Blue [which in my opinion, has the best music track in the game].
