  • where do you live? city /state? zone ? I can't believe the fantastic growth you have had in your garden.....absolutely beautiful garden....can I use liquid emulsion since I don't have the ability to compost?

  • @cappykay

40 yrs ago I read about how Native American showed the Plymouth Rock pilgrims how fertilize by burrying Menhaden (moss bunker) oily fish under a group of 4 or so corn plants and let string beans also drink up these amazing fish nutrients causing highly productive micro gardens. Then I started using fish emulsion but raccoon ripped my gardens to shreds looking for fish being that fish emulsion stinks so badly. 30 yrs ago I started burrying fish heads bones guts, fins deep into compost

    North East Hardiness Zone 6B

Our zip is 6a -10 to -5 F but our micro climate is in a valley with great morning sun and southern exposure

    so most likely 6b -5 to 0 F

Planting is all about timing. I take the temperature of my soil. I now have spinach, arugula, romaine lettus, and butter crunch lettus and 3 types of radishes under the florescent lights for fall. I cooked large quantities of tomato sauce and Eggplant Parm and froze today for winter. I need to turn over my compost.

  • where did you get your fish compost or did you make it? Do you use the entire fish or just the scraps from gutting, scaling, and de-heading?

  • @kerrysv1

You can see my tour of my compost windrows and information among my gardening videos. get there by just clicking on my name.

I bury fish racks (head guts bones fins) left over from fileting fish. I put lots in my last years windrow yesterday.

It is the majic of my gardens!

  • Hello Dear,

Do you feed anything to soil? Believe me ..i add compost . whenever i grow lettuce spinach beets or fenugreek..they germinate fine and then 1 inch foliar growth later they stop growing...but leaves on zuchini tomatoes are fine. how do you spray calcium on zuchini?

what am i doing wrong please help!

  • @myganesha1

BLOOD MEAL IS MY SECRET FOR LETTUCE and SPINACH BUT I HAVE TO PUT IT BELOW THE SURFACE OTHERWISE IT ATTRACTS ROOT MAGGOT FLIES AND THEN I HAVE TO GET OUT THE WHITE VINGAR AND COTTON BALLS. MORNING SUN IS THE OTHER MOST IMPORTANT THING>

I START 80 SEEDS IN THE HOUSE MARCH 1 AND PUT THEM OUT APRIL 10 2" APART.

I THIN THEM TO 4" APART AROUND MAY 15TH EATING LITTLE ONES TRANSPLANTING SOME AND GIVING SOME AWAY. I START EATING 2"- 2 1/2" DIAMETER BEETS IN JUNE AND HAVE THEM ALL PICKED AND OUT OF THE GARDEN BY THE EXTREEM HEAT OF JULY 20TH ON.

I WRAP 10 IN PLASTIC BAGS NO AIR KEEPING THEM IN THE COLDER VEG DRAW OF FRIG GOOD FOR 1 MONTH. I BOIL AND FREEZE 10 NOT BAD ALL WINTER. CHIOGGIA IS THE BEST!

  • Great looking garden. Those beets are amazing! How far apart do you plant your beets? Keep up the great work!
