AIRTAP!

TABS AT THE BOTTOM OF DESCRIPTION

Just thought I'd put up a "close up" video of Airtap. While it's not my best performance, you can get an idea of whether or not it's accurate compared to Erik Mongrain's famous Airtap video. If you haven't seen it, I've put a link further down, watch it because it's amazing! Anyways, like always, I'd love any/all criticism. It really helps me out! ALSO, you may notice the audio sounds strange, this is because not only are you hearing the recorded audio from the POD X3 Live my guitar was plugged into, but also the regular audio picked up by my camera's mic. It was the only way to get the knocking sounds on the guitar to be heard as I don't have any special mic or pickups to attach to my guitar. Which brings up another point, keep in mind I'm playing nylon, whereas Erik Mongrain plays steel. Both offer very different sounding harmonics/ sounds in general.

I HAVE TABBED THIS OUT

I've never been able to find any tabs for Erik Mongrain's famed version of Airtap on youtube, which is by far my favorite rendition. Thus, I decided to watch that video over and over until I figured it out. I put the tabs on ultimate-guitar and they were kicked off right away, so please don't suggest I put them there. Fantastic cover! You are a very talented guitarist! I am now also learning this song myself and when tapping out the harmonics with my right hand fore finger, I have gotten a bruise on the finger and whenever I try to play it hurts to much to use, I knew it would take a while for the finger to get used to a new technique but didn't relise it would hurt like this. I'm just wondering if you had the same problem when first learning? Or if my technique is a bit wrong, any help would be great.

Thanks man! Yeah what I learned the hard way is you can't take the easy route and hit the harmonics with your finger, you gotta retrain yourself to always hit them with your nail. Yeah I ran into the same problem but something that helped, once I realized it, and that I still use if my nail is too short or something, is I put quite a bit of superglue on the point of my finger I hit with. It takes some time to apply, letting one layer completely dry before applying another, but it

Definitely helps with the pain. Hope that helps, but yeah you're best bet is to retrain yourself to hit the harmonics with the nail of your index finger, rather than the finger itself. After doing that I've yet to struggle with the harmonics, am pain free after playing, and the nail actually creates for a much crisper sounding harmonic.

I'm guessing you're referring to around 2:10 and if you are, the harmonics I'm hitting with the middle finger on my right hand are the harmonics on all the strings except the strings I'm using with my left hand. And to hit those I'm just slamming my middle finger down on the fret fast so all the harmonics ring.

The part where you don't use your index finger to tap harmonics, are you like holding the pointing finger on the fret and use another finger to ring the harmonics?
