this was shown on Channel 4 in 1987 as part of ATV Night

Another reason there weren't repeats might have been all the big-time American guest stars on the series. They'd all have to have been negotiated with. This was why syndicated repeats of variety shows were almost non-existant until the very late 70s.

This must be the special episode cobbled for Montreaux. The Gilliam "Goodbye" end montage is not used. According to Robert Ross's new book about Feldman, the COMEDY MACHINE was shown in a late slot in Britain and didn't do well in the ratings-but this compilation ep. won an award at Montreaux. Then, a heavily edited/augmented version (added American stand-ups and singing groups)was shown in America, where it didn't really do so well, either-but led to more work in the US.

Thanks for posting this. I remembering watching this when it was on TV. I was a young teenager and my parents couldn't stand the show. But, my grandmother used to sit and watch it with me and we would laugh like crazy.
Thanks very much for this, this was a fantastic show and I can't to this day figure out why it's never been repeated anywhere. One though: Apart from the opening titles, didn't Terry Gilliam do the animations for the station breaks and the end titles as well?
