The Wayland Display Server by Kristian Hoegsberg running on Ubuntu 10.10 (Intel G945M) in libdrm mode.

This server is a potential replacement for X11 and integrated the compositor and the window manager processes such that everything is composited by default.

  • Thanks for the demo but could you please do another video where you place the camera down and don't keep moving between screens. Thanks! :D

  • awesome! nice work.

Can you do a small (even if incomplete) tutorial on how you set it up?

  • @hasenj yes, I will do one when I get time.

  • Dude... Get a tripod... Besides that, nice work :) hope I can get rid of stupid X.... They are way behind the curve

  • @st1gma888 I have a tripod actually. Just no time to set it up for this video :p

  • Dude - nice but I can't see any of the text you are entering @ the commandline. Please use a desktop recorder app for future postings FTW :)

    Thanks!

  • why are you using two computers to use only one i don't get it this is so stupid.

  • @suoko1 Better than meego!! Meego actually uses X11 but uses btrfs and clutter

  • I wonder how this will affect running apps remote (and yes, vnc sucks).

  • does it give synchronous refresh rates?

  • X needs to die :)

  • @gavinjengel

Beautifully simple architecture and a lot less code to maintain that even Carmack wished to have the time to contribute to.

  • Know where i can download pre-compiled packages for ubuntu or other linux?

  • If I'm not mistaken Wayland uses OpenGL ES, won't that be potentially probelmatic for games that use standard OpenGL; or can the application call on OpenGL directly though Gallium/Mesa?

  • Using X to watch wayland clips - how would I know if there's really no tearing, lag, redrawing or flicker? ;-P
