For our first episode of Secret Sessions we were lucky enough to catch up with Andrew Belle on his way through Washington State. Andrew Belle is an award winning Singer/Songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. He's had songs on several hit TV shows, including a featured spot on the season 6 finale of Grey's Anatomy, which resulted in Andrew rising to the top of the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts. Andrew comes off as very humble and sincere, both in person and on his record. His music has been described as upbeat songs of heartbreak and longing, which I've found creates an addictive mix of emotions. Before we started recording we sat down with Andrew to discuss his inspiration.

SoulFound- What's the story behind your album, The Ladder?

Andrew- I wrote the record kind of just off the cuff when I was living in Chicago. I had just moved back from living in St. Louis, so it was kind of a transitional point for me, and all these songs I was writing were about going from one place to another, transitioning in life and dealing with that. I kept using all this imagery in my lyrics about a ladder going from one place to another, so it finally just kind of fit for that to be the title. My buddy Adam actually suggested that be the title, and I liked it so I wrote a song called The Ladder to kind of solidify it. The rest is history I guess.

SoulFound - What about my personal favorite of yours "In My Veins"? What's the story behind that song?

Andrew - In My Veins, I wrote that as a break up song. You spend such a good part of your life with someone, and then all of a sudden it's over, it's hard to just turn that off, you know? When you listen to the lyrics it's not really apparent that it's a romantic kind of song. I also drew from imagery, just as a human being, dealing with sin nature and stuff like that, so there's a lot of symbolism drawn in the lyrics.

SoulFound - So far in your career what has been your biggest moment? The most exciting for you personally.

Andrew - Wow, that's a good question. Definitely you know when the record came out, all the attention iTunes gave it was really flattering, and kind of unexpected. We had been talking with them a little bit, we weren't sure what they were going to do. So when they put the record up on the front page, and it climbed the iTunes charts the way it did, that was probably the most exciting day for me. I was on the road at the time, i was traveling with Allen Stone, and we were driving down the CA-5, and it was an all day drive. i kept getting texts from my friends and family letting me know how the record was doing as the day was progressing. That was the most special day so far.

SoulFound - Awesome man, what about your parents? How do they feel about all of this?

Andrew - They love it. I went to college and got a business degree 4 years ago, so when I came home and told them I was going to skip that and become a singer/songwriter, they weren't super thrilled, because I hadn't really done a lot of music growing up. Once I got going and once they saw how much effort I was putting into it, and how much I really cared about it they got on board. Ever since then they've been my biggest supporters for sure.

SoulFound - What's your favorite original song to sing and play?

Andrew - I have this song called "All those pretty lights" from this E.P. I did a couple years ago. i don't really care for the recording of it, looking back 2 years later. I guess that's just a musician thing, you always look back on your previous works, and you get hypercritical. Now we've started playing it live in a different way. We've revamped the song, and I think we're going to rerecord it. That song might be my favorite song to play.

  • everyone go and get andrew belles new ep the daylight it includes this song and 2 others on itunes!

  • Love this version...Shared.

  • This version sounds just as great as the original, although I am still a little more partial to the first. I find this to be a little too pop-y but, either way, this is a fantastic song and will forever remain as my favorite song of all time. Keep on writing and recording, Andrew! Anything you write will sound like pure genius to my ears!

  • I love that I keep coming back to this video, its so good. On his facebook page it said he is re-recording this song.... so maybe he will record this version?? But what I'm shocked with is that their are only 20,345 views?? People need to hear this guy, and be changed with his soul, lyrics and sound. Here's to a new year full of Andrew Belle!
