sure, training elbow energy is important. im sure you are familiar of the idea of deflecting energy in wing chun? thats what i meant about ip ching borrowing energy to his advantage.
I agree, this chisao is'nt training. You train nothing if you simply make turns with your arms. If you move forward in a correct way, ip ching will only be able to step back or he will get hit. I think he does not understand the basic principles of chisao
In accordance with this video, Ip ching cannot follow the movement of foreigner during the period of chi sau. Even though he only use his silly way to block the attack from foreigner. Thus, his body has gradually approached to be in tension. As a result, he lost his balance. No matter how good you are, the silly mistake is that he cannot believe to lose his respect during the execrise.
when you power foward like that, someone like ip ching will undoubtedly borrow that energy to his advantage.
but i definitely agree with u about the elbow generating punching power. like u said its good training. but the chi sao displayed here isnt exactly training.
If there is power foward, you can see the elbow moving forward with pressure. This pressure is a good training for your bodystructure and punching power. You actually can see this when other people train, people like Wong shun Leung or Philip Bayer
wonderful

An 80 year old man that can still land hits whenever he wants. That's amazing enough.
