always get a structural engineer to tell you how much weight your rood can support. almost all roofs can handle 4" of mixed green roof soil.
it triples the lifespan of your roof and reduces air conditioning costs. we are working to get a $4.50per sq ft tax credit on green roofing too.

i shot this video. green roof install happened in one day, cool roof (white coating) 3 days because we had to let the layers dry.

HATER!
Another simple-minded person upholding the status quo and getting in the way of progress for ALL!

I heard about Majora Carter and SSBx about a year ago in Utne magazine and again in Van Jones' "The Green Collar Economy."
Where is this building located and are non-residents allowed to view this project?
All the projects profiled on the SSBx site look really exciting and promising.
Keep up the amazing work!

we paid for it, and we love it, and many others have paid as well. you don't have to - no one is asking you to.

Our soil wet weight is 15lbs/sq ft @ 4" depth. Most structures were built with a greater dead load capacity; and nearly all nyc area homes. Shielding the waterproof membrane from the sun/temp fluctuations extends roof life by up to 40 yrs. Solar isn't a viable option in nyc because the utility buys electricity at a poor rate. Currently, SSBx is pushing for a $5/sq ft property tax credit to value the environmental services provide to water treatment systems

you are absolutely right ...these idiots know nothing about engineering. If you want to do something like this, you better start at the building phase, and plan to use a lot of steel underneath as well as at least 20 mil molded vinyl pad underneath otherwise its not if it will leak, but when.

And the world is flat! ;)

Green? How foolish can people be? The money that it takes to do something like this, not to mention the weight of all that soil and water over time, will cause the roof to leak, and ruin the entire structure....must have been chicks who dreamt this one up.

i think they were better off putting solar pannels, it would of been more efficient
-
Awesome. Keep up the good work.

I don't know how to say this but everything you just stated is all interrelated. Do some research.

You ask the M.F. Germans! If it was such a great Idea everybody would be doing it! All I know is that is Massive Weight..You have a Crane! You know how much it cost to rent a Crane for a week! A Crane that size cost like 1,000.00 a day! Labor...material...You have to come better than that...I ain't no new kid on the block.

hmm, great ideas that we don't do here in the US; gosh you're right. universal health care, free quality education, gun control, no trade embargo against Cuba, GMO food regulations, no speed limits on the hwy... No massive weight baby, just 20 lbs per sq ft? the crane was rented for a day because of the building's logistics. cost, $16 per sq ft.
peace

Not trying to be negative...But, What if you get a leak in your roof, like 10-15 years down the line? Major Work! Knowing roofing work..One can have a leak in the front of the structure...and could have started anywhere[middle or back of structure].Good Idea..don't know if it's doable...from a money stand point.

ask the Germans, they have been doing it there on a massive scale since the early 60's. it protects your roof from the elements, and prevents most water from ever reaching the water proof part in the first place
