Reduce Your Use (4mins)

Shane Johnson lives off-grid, installs systems, and teaches seminars. The first lesson is the power of energy efficiency.

About Chapter 7: Going Off-Grid

Powering your home off-grid means assessing all potential loads, storage requirements, and the best source of renewable power on your land. Then you have to set up and run all this equipment. How do independent Albertans get the expertise to become their own power company?

About Made-in-Alberta (MIA) Series

Energy, water and climate, these are hot topics for the 21st Century. With conventional fuel reserves running out, water tables running low, and global temperatures running high, 96 percent of Albertans now want new energy solutions. Since 2004, Barb Allard and her Made-in-Alberta team have been finding these solutions and bringing them to community television and the world wide web.

  • what would you do if options to obtain propane were shut down?

  • you might want to get a dj's power bar as they have like 10 plugs with a switch for each outlet so you can turn on the surround, tv and dvd player without the drain from your other unused components they are about twice as much as a power bar
