Here's a shot I've been wanting to get for quite a while now. This is CSX R-184.21 making its way through the reverse S curve just north of Cusseta, Al.

This is actually a train ID I've never heard of before. I find it somewhat strange for a intermodel to be coming south at this time of day around these parts.

Enjoy!

  • Standard cab!!!!

  • Yay, no wide nose today.

  • I suspect if its a train number you have not heard, and it isn't a regular, then could it be a re-route?

Either way, that is an excellent spot!

  • I guess that would make since seeing that it starts with an R.

As for the location, this is one of my favorite locations to shoot. The angles preferr a southbound move and that's why I say I've been wanting to shoot here for a while now.

Glad you liked it and thanks for the info.

  • Correct, it is a reroute. There is currently an embargo on the Lineville Sub, so trains are running down to Montgomery on the S&NA and then up the A&WP to Atlanta.

  • Interesting. I've heard bits and pieces of talk about work being done on the Lineville sub. I guess this is the best route. Thanks for the info. More trains for me.

  • gosh that looks like fec107.About how many trains you see a day on this line?

  • First of all, how was I 'slamming'??? Just becuase I said 'impossible'? If I was 'slamming' someone, wouldn't I say something like 'dumbass'? And where does the A&WP and Cusseta come in my first reply? Nowhere.

  • Hey jackass Knudshoved, get your facts straight. Hoolg said "Cusseta", which is on the Western of Alabama main just NE of Opelika, AL, not on the S&NA Sub. Please make sure you know what you're talking about before you start slamming people.

  • Impossible. Intermodal trains do NOT run down the S&NA (south), because of Parkwood Tunnel. Reroutes like these head down Lineville and make turn along the line.
