Japanese Conquest of the Philippines in World War 2. The Battle for Corregidor was the culmination of the Japanese campaign for the conquest of the Philippines. The fall of Bataan in April 9, 1942, ended all organized opposition by the U.S. Army Forces -- Far East (USAFFE) to the invading Japanese forces on Luzon in the northern Philippines. The island bastion of Corregidor, with its network of tunnels and formidable array of defensive armament, along with the fortifications across the entrance to Manila Bay, was the remaining obstacle to the 14th Japanese Imperial Army of Lieutenant General Masaharu Homma. The Japanese had to take Corregidor; as long as the island remained in American hands, they would be denied the use of the Manila Bay, the finest natural harbor in the Far East.

  • Japanese under estimate Filipinos during WWII. They thought they can defeat Philippines in 50 days, and go straight in Australia. But! they were wrong! It took them 5 months to conquer Philippines. They said(Japs) they are master in guerrilla warfare, especially in forest. But Filipino fighter fucked them all bigtime. So one Japs General, ordered to burn as many forest as possible in Bataan. And kill as many Filipino POW as they could. Japanese empire is so pissed with the Filipino soldiers!

  • Even after the Japanese conquest of Manila and coastal regions, the Filipino resistence continued in the interior of the country until the return of the U.S. forces in late 1944. Read the biography of Colonel Fertig who was a witness and participant of that resistence.
